Why Steven Dunn Loves Working in Long Term Care Law

I’ve followed in my father’s footsteps as far as the profession and direction of the type of work I would do. You know, my father grew up in a modest, poor environment and he always represented people who were needy, always. Working people and that’s what I did. I went in with him and did what he did. We represented working people forever and I evolved into representing people who worked on ships and those people when they get hurt, they’re very needy. When they get hurt I got a lot of satisfaction helping those people and I still do.

But when I got involved in my father’s issue and started doing it, I just never dreamed that I would develop the interest in something as much as I have developed the interest in this, and the satisfaction I get in helping elderly people who are needy. This is something that I hadn’t experienced professionally quite the way that I do with this.

I think that children, elderly people, and special needs people are the most vulnerable people. Somebody needs to look after the people who are most vulnerable and I think we’re duty bound to do that. I feel that responsibility and I felt it personally with my own father and I feel it now almost as his surrogate to help other elderly people who are situated like he is and helping the families. I think elderly people have to be looked after and I think they’re not the way they should be. I think they’re forgotten and neglected and it’s a terrible thing. Those are the people who laid it all out for us and now that they’re at the end of their lives, the home stretch of their twilight of their lives, how can they be alone? How can people not really take care of them and really care about then? And there are people who do. People are in this industry who care. People I’ve met in this industry, the long term industry do care and are passionate about providing care and companionship to elderly and letting them, helping them live with some dignity that they deserve and helping them through the end of their life. I’m just feeling very fortunate that I’m one of those people that drifted into this because it’s the right thing to do and I’m very satisfied and gratified that I’m able to do it and I don’t foresee stopping in the near future. I’m just going to keep on doing it for as long as I can.
