About Steven M. Dunn
I was born and raised in Florida, and I have lived in the Miami area throughout my life. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Finance from Florida State University in 1981, and received my law degree in 1984 from the University of Florida. I was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1985 and joined my father’s practice, Dunn and Johnson, that same year.
Working hand-in-hand with my father was a tremendous opportunity that afforded me with invaluable experience. Thus far, I have been fortunate to have had a dynamic practice that has spanned from Personal Injury litigation, Workers Compensation, Longshore Harbor Workers’ cases, as well as Jones Act and Maritime litigation. And, I have been in involved in notable appellate court decisions in these areas.
Ironically, my initiation into the world of long-term care (LTC) insurance was prompted by my own personal experience with my father.
I began specializing in long-term care insurance 11 years ago, when my father became ill. It became apparent as a result of his illness that my sister and I would have to follow through with the difficult decision of placing him in an assisted living facility. Prior to his illness, he had purchased a long-term care insurance policy. To offset the high cost of his care in the facility, we requested that his long-term care insurance company pay some of the charges associated with the care he needed and was receiving. The request was denied on the premise that the assisted living facility was not a “home” and the policy was a “home care policy”. I decided to take the case, and I won.
It was during this experience with my father that I first realized how neglected the field of long term care (LTC) was. So, I decided to make a serious career shift.
Since immersing myself in the long-term care field, I was involved in the first appellate court case in Florida under Florida’s Long Term Care insurance statute, and I have been fortunate enough to successfully advocate for hundreds of insured parties across the country.
My commitment to my work and to my clients has allowed me to carve my own niche in the area of Long-Term Care Insurance Claims, via a combination of experience, a profound understanding of the field, and a deep passion for advocacy.
Catherine described her experience working with Mr. Dunn as an extremely positive one. She said, “I was very happy with the outcome of my case, and I was amazed at the quality of service Mr. Dunn and his team provided. They were extremely helpful and walked me through the entire process, step by step. They are extremely professional and very good at what they do.”.
Mrs. Taylor described her experience working with Mr. Dunn and his team as comfortable and simple. “He was so attentive to my needs. He always returned my calls, and was happy to answer any and all of my questions. He also made sure that I had comfortable accommodations when I came to Miami for a mediation.”
